School Choir
This song was from one of my favorite choir concerts at Skyline. There were a lot of seniors in that year's group so it was fun to enjoy this concert with the people who would soon be moving on. Nyon Nyon was a very vocally challenging song to learn and I gained a lot from it. It was the first time I experimented with vocal percussion.
This concert was so much fun overall; we got to watch choirs from all over the district perform all their best pieces, then we all got to come together to sing this final song. In my experience, the more people in a choir the better. This concert only adds to that belief.
2020 brought about many challenges for performers. We lost all of our chances to hold live shows and concerts so our choirs turned to virtual performances. While recording yourself alone and hoping it turns out well isn't as enjoyable as singing as a group, it was amazing to be able to hear all of our voices come together. This song, Winter With You, was a great way to go into the holiday season in this anything but normal year.
2020 All-State Choir
The balcony sing at All-State choir was one of the most incredible expeiences of my life so far. Nothing can match the power of hundreds of voices singing all together. Every single person there was an incredible musician and when that was combined with the space we were in it created a magical sound that enveloped everything. The video catches a lot of background noise and does quite do justice to the actual experience, but I know I will never forget the feeling I had being there.
I had the honor of spending three days in Denver with the 2020 Colorado High School Honor Choir. It was by far the best experience I had during all of my four years in high school. I mentioned this in my reflection of the balcony sing but the pure talent held by every student in the group was mind blowing. I learned so much about my own voice and about being a good member of a choir. In the end I think we had some pretty good stuff to show for it. (I was in the mixed choir which starts at around 13 minutes into the first video linked.)
